The
Art of Aging
Celebrating the Authentic

Embrace Aging with Boldness
Common misconceptions of growing old cause fear and anxiety in
aging citizens all over the country. Among those myths is the
notion that becoming elderly is a dead end street with no
potential for personal growth or healthy activity. According to
Health Wise medical center, emotional and mental vitality are
closely related to physical vitality, all effecting the way you
think and feel. Replacing a lost activity from your youth with
something comparable is the key to staying active and feeling
good about yourself.
Internationally acclaimed artists Alice and Richard Matzkin did
just this as they grew afraid of their emerging wrinkles, grey
hair and expanding waistlines. Instead of a psychiatrist couch,
they reintroduced paint and clay back into their lives after
years of absence to work through their fear and negative
attitudes about aging. THE ART OF AGING: Celebrating the
Authentic Aging Self traces their artistic and spiritual journey
towards self acceptance.
For fifteen years Alice painted and interviewed
inspiring older women, some famous and some without
clothes, and Richard sculpted older men and couples,
most without clothes. Together, they joined creative
forces to present their groundbreaking work in a
lavishly illustrated and highly inspirational book,
'The Art of Aging: Celebrating the Authentic Aging
Self'. The book features 80 full-color plates and
contains the Matzkins’ personal reflections on
acceptance of the physical changes of age,
sensuality and mature relationships, aging parents,
spirituality and death.
Alice says, “We count our present age (late 60’s) to
be among the best of our lives. Our art work and the
writing of our book have helped to give us a wider
perspective, a deeper understanding of the meaning
of our lives, and an appreciation of the
preciousness of now.”

"Big Blend Magazine is a company based on the belief that education is the most formidable weapon that can be waged against fear, ignorance and prejudice.
It is our belief that education starts at
home and branches outward. Education leads to travel, and
travel leads to understanding, tolerance, and appreciation
of cultures and customs different to our own, and ultimately
to world peace. Our company is further based on the
principle that networking, communication, and helping others
to promote and market themselves leads to financial
stability; thus paving the way to better education, travel,
and the spirit of giving back to the community."
