Flag: Connecticut is our 5th state of the
orignal 13 colonies, becoming a state on January
9, 1788. Clusters of grapes and grape vines on
the flag represent the settlements of English
people as they moved out from Massachusetts.
Origin of state's name: From an Indian word (Quinnehtukqut) meaning
“beside the long tidal river”
Highest Point: Mt. Frissell; 2,380 feet,
Lowest Point: Long Island Sound; Sea level,
