Channel Islands National Park -
Our Version of the
Galapagos Islands
Five islands in the Pacific Ocean (Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Miguel and Santa Barbara), off the coast of Southern California, extending from Point Conception near Santa Barbara to San Pedro--are home to 145 species of plants and animals you will not find anywhere else in the world. (Photo courtesy of the National Parks Service.)
The marine life ranges from the largest mammal, the endangered blue whale, right down to microscopic plankton. Throughout winter and spring you can watch migrating whales, and you can see beautiful displays of wildflowers.
The Channel Islands offer hiking, camping, snorkeling, kayaking, bird-watching and of course, a multitude of photo opportunities. In addition, the islands are home to breeding colonies of seabirds, towering cliffs and sea caves, resting places for sea lions and harbor seals, tide pool exploration, archaeological sites, a even a lighthouse.
Watch our selection of videos for an idea of what you can enjoy on these islands and plan a trip to the area!
